Skjól og skart- handverk og saga íslensku búninganna

A group of women join a seminar in sewing Icelandic national costumes. While they sew they discuss this activity and tell why they do this and what these costumes mean to them.
From their discussions various themes unfolds and are explored further. Whether it is the political meaning from the Romanticism or new ways of wearing the costumes that are not appreciated by the more conservative.
As their work develops, aspects of the handicraft of the costume making are shown; the weaving, the making of filigree, the embroidery, the dyeing of the wool with pigments from local plants, the lace making etc.
